Welcome SA!

Bienvenidos... Welcome to AlamoCityTimes.com, the little Blog that could. Born May 19, 2009, but many years in the making. I hope here you will find a place to share stories worth telling. Your stories San Antonio! Your family, your friends, your neighborhood stories. The place you like, the business you sponsored.  The movie you just watched, or that very important city issue you must speak out about.

This is a Community News Blog, and what that means is that everyone's contribution is welcome!!

Like you and many today, we are a small, family, neighborhood driven blog, self-funded and backed by strong Journalism principals and ethics, and a seasoned news media professional. My name is Patricio Espinoza, I'm this Blog's founder, and your Managing Editor.

Most recently, successfully ran SA4Mayor.com covering the 2009 Candidates for Mayor. My personal blog, now nominated for a 2009 Emmy award, is espiBlog.org. And you will find many of those stories here. SA4Mayor.com, a project of the heart, reached over 30,000 page views in about 90 days.  We have now transitioned to local community driven news: AlamoCityTimes.com, "Your Community News Blog."

And so... lets get back to you, Alamo City... this is your blog, and here's what I propose: You have a story to tell? An event to share? An issue of concern? Drop me a note, I will look into it... or better yet... dig up the story yourself, sign-up, send it in, and I will post it here. You can also upload photos and videos.

So you may be wondering Why? Well, our goal is to complement what traditional media has to offer.  They got the picture, so why not us add the other small pieces of the puzzle.  How many times have you whispered... Why doesn't anyone cover or do that story? So here is your chance San Antonio, to put your money... or in this case your story where your mouth is.

So come on! What are you waiting for, sign-up today, and start contributing to AlamoCityTimes.com "Your Community News Blog" We are now 25,000 monthly pages views strong.  And if you need help we offer our ACT-Now! Camps, FREE training for our Community Contributors to learn how to use today's digital tools to tell stories.

And... if you are one of our Journalist friends, and colleagues who recently lost their job to cutbacks, and downsizing, drop me a note for sure. We have a revenue share plan for committed writers, photographers, columnists with weekly/daily contributions to this blog.

Ah... y les dije que hablamos Español?  ¡Si señor! tenemos una sección en Español y aquí Ud. también puede poner sus historias, fotos, videos.

Remember, every story has many angles. What's Yours...??

Byron Miller and the Eastside Campaign
Pos here I am at the Byron Miller HQs, helping to organize a major blockwalking party tomorrow, Saturday, June 6th, at 10am - 2pm. I'm involved in this because I love the Eastside's history, the stately homes, the mix of people, and the trees!
This is an interesting race. Byron Miller's parents were from here, and his mother, Hazel, established the Miller Child Development Center that took care of thousands...the elderly seem to really like Byron Miller. Last night, he made a fired-up speech about how neglected the Eastside is, you could see the press conference possibilities at the top of the HemisFair Tower at night as he despaired about the lightshow visible all over San Antonio - EXCEPT ON THE Eastside -- look how dark it's here, and how things must change.
I told him that he needs artists to help him, as Cruz Ortiz told me, artists can make all the difference in this district, transforming neglected buildings into studios, lofts, homes, that can electrify the neighborhoods. However, Cruz is supporting Ivy Taylor, he says she's in his neighborhood association and that he trusts her to support artists.

It seems that Byron Miller is ahead in the race. I think people need to make him listen now, before he gets elected. With Julian Castro as Mayor, there is a chance to revitalize the Eastside - but not at the expense of the people who live and love this place.

Hay que tener Pride en el Eastside!
