Julian Castro, San Antonio's Mayor elect took office official today. With about 42,700 or 54% of the votes, Castro was elected last May 9th. Much work to do and many campaign promises to keep. And today the new Mayor was up and running shortly after 6am at SAP taking roll call, and later to a series of events to wrap it all up tonight at his first official press conference.
Castro also wanted to make sure he talks directly to the community, here is the message he sent out his evening to the Alamo City. And below watch WOAI's report about Julian Castro's first day in office.
Dear Friends:
Today is an extraordinary day for me and my family as we move into the mayor's office at City Hall and begin the important work ahead. My sincere appreciation goes out to San Antonio for giving me this distinct honor of serving as their next mayor. I am humbled to have this privilege, especially because our city has always been a special place for me.
Our successful campaign was the result of the commitment and hard work of many throughout our community. I offer my deepest thanks to everyone who helped in this effort. Whether you wrote a check, stuffed envelopes in our campaign office, walked blocks, attended a rally or just told a friend to vote, each contribution made a difference.
My commitment is to serve as mayor to all of San Antonio and to bring people together in our shared vision of unprecedented economic growth. San Antonio’s great challenge in the coming years will be twofold: to continue to prosper in every way that a city can prosper— attracting and retaining good jobs, enhancing quality of life and making neighborhoods safer—and to maintain the fundamental character of our city, the sense of community that sets San Antonio apart among America’s big cities.
Warmest Regards,Julián Castro
