San Antonio’s first AlamoCityTimes.com Community Contributors Camp “ACT-Now!” broke new ground.  In collaboration with OLLU, local contributors, Bloggers, students and media professionals gathered at the school’s state-of-the-art Media Lab.

ACT-Now! Camp is the Alamo City’s first Community and Citizen Journalism training camp. Free and open to everyone, it follows a national trend to empowered communities to get involved in their local media landscape.

Over twenty five people signed up, and a strong group of  participants met and took advantage of hands-on contributor’s training using OLLU’s Media Lab.

From a filmmaker, to a realty consultant, to communication students and a professional social media specialist, to local Bloggers in English and Spanish, joined us tonight in an almost three hour “How-to” session, and learned how to post stories for ACTimes, upload photos, use videos,, conduct interviews, look for stories, and more.

Participants also talked about their work, blogs, and personal efforts.  Plus we all had an opportunity to learn about ready avail social media tools including Flip cameras, Creative Commons copyright licensing, Web Streaming, YouTube and more.  And we also met active participants like Patsy Robles with 411 Productions and Jeniffer Navarrete with SA’s Social Media Club who shared their know- how.

All and all a great humble success!! And AlamoCityTImes.com would like to thank each one of you who joined our efforts in the public interest, and helped us together break new ground by hosting our first ACT-Now! Camp. Patricio Espinoza, founder ACTimes

AlamoCityTimes.com is Community Journalism effort in the public interest, a project of the heart by ACTimes founders Bernessa Jakle and Patricio Espinoza.  This community journalism website working with a zero budget, in less than a year has reached a combined 75,000 strong pages views (total May-Nov 2009) Contributors are able to use free on-line tools to create, post and publish stories of interest to our community, from sports, to entertainment, business, events, news, music, movies and more.

And if you wonder how it all started… just ask my Mom, she also made it to the camp… she’s in her 70’s and runs her own Blog in Spanish.

Now… stop reading, move forward, post and share your stories!

And if you missed tonight’s camp… there will be more to come.
