SAHS Fido Olympics – Water Splash

Middleton, winner of the Golden Biscuit!Think London is the only place you’ll see star athletes compete this Olympic season? Well think again! The San Antonio Humane Society is hosting the Fido Olympics; three weeks of competitive athletic challenges to see which team will take home the ultimate prize; the Golden Bone! Follow the Fido Olympics online at sahumane.org and facebook.com/sahumane to watch Teams Shepherd, Terrier, and Labrador as they compete with the help of their Cat Coaches. Support your champions by visiting them at the San Antonio Humane Society and rooting them on to victory or better yet, giving them the grand prize, a loving home and family!

Teams Shepherd, Terrier, and Labrador will compete in three challenges that include the Ball Retrieve, the Water Splash, and the Companion Course.

The second event for the Fido Olympics was the Water Splash! The object of this event was for each canine to try to create the biggest and most entertaining splash. With the help from their human companion (and a few treats), each canine hopped into the doggie pool and received a score from our three judges. After all three dogs made their splash, it was apparent that the representative for Team Labrador, Middleton, had made the best splash! She took home the first Golden Biscuit for her team. The Silver Biscuit went to Abe from Team Terrier and the Bronze Biscuit went to Elliot from Team Shepherd.

About San Antonio Humane Society

The San Antonio Humane Society is a non-profit, no-kill organization that has served Bexar County and its surrounding areas since 1952. We are not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States or the ASPCA. Every year, the San Antonio Humane Society shelters, medically treats, and rehabilitates more than 5,000 animals that have been injured, abused, or abandoned until they are ready for adoption. As an adoption guarantee organization, the shelter only euthanizes animals that we are unable to treat, have a condition that poses a significant threat to the other animals in the shelter or that have aggression issues. Through our adoption, volunteer, foster care, and educational programs we educate the public on the importance of responsible pet ownership, micro-chipping and spaying/neutering. In the near future, we plan to expand our ability to aid homeless pets by adding a shelter medicine hospital to our campus. Our mission is to protect and improve the lives of dogs and cats by providing shelter, care, adoption, rescue, spay and neuter programs, and community education.
