The weather is starting to heat up, at least a bit and in no time you will be shopping for swimwear and planning parties at the beach. Swimwear can often get a bit boring, it's the same cuts with different patterns. This summer, however, try something different because the ultra chic monokini is better than ever.

A monokini is a twist and mix on the classic bikini and the one piece swimsuit. The top and bottom pieces are connected down the midsection.

There are several different versions of the monokini some that are familiar and some that are seriously pushing the boundaries but in a unique, sexy way. The great thing about a monokini is that they offer different looks. This blue wrap monokini can easily be worn to swim but adding a white wrap or skirt and wedge heels will offer you the comfortable coverage you might need. The plunging monokini is also a great swimsuit. This one is lined with sparkling embellishments and draw strings at the hips, add a floppy hat and tote and you are boho chic.

One of the ultimate dreams of a designer is to showcase his or her own designs of elegance and glam on the red carpet. This month, one of San Antonio's favorite Tejano music artists, Stefani Montiel, will make that happen for three local designers as she takes to the red carpet for the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

“San Antonio is part of who I am,” said Montiel, “I wanted to reach out to the local young talent in the city to give these fashionistas a great opportunity to be a part of the excitement of the red carpet in Los Angeles.”

The International Academy of Design and Technology has partnered with Montiel and Telemundo KVDA TV in a red carpet competition for the ages. Students from the Academy will be creating designs for the public to vote on and Montiel to choose from to wear as she glams it up on the red carpet for the Grammys. She will be attending as one of this year's nominees.

The contest is titled, "Proyecto Divina," and votes are now being cast here, a website...

Neutral Tones

The elegance and simplicity of neutral tones was seen on the New York runways marking neutral tones a must have for Spring 2010. The use of the neutral tones was seen through out, from dresses to pant suits and the use of light sheer fabrics only adds to the easy, elegant appeal. Donna Karan and Marc Jacobs collections featured some stunning neutral tone pieces.

See Through

Spicing up the runway was an assortment of see through pieces. See through clothing is sexy and daring and can be worn in a very sophisticated way so as not to reveal too much. Jill Stuart paired an off the shoulder see through top with black pants and heels and also created brilliant designs by having creative see through inserts in her pieces. Layering ultra sheer fabrics also created a dream like essence in the Marc Jacob collection. Summer will be sizzling with these see through designs.

Bright and bold metallic’s always find a spot on the runway. Dresses look amazing in metallic!...

Previous Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza “Best in the U.S” vocalist and Odessa native Esteban Velasquez has spent the past 8 months working on his first CD Ladron de Amores. The CD was produced in part by Fernando de Santiago, Pepe Aguilar's musical director, and Raul Carballeda, vocal director for the international televised vocal competition "La Academia.” Esteban and Raul met in Mexico while Esteban competed on the TV AZTECA program last year.

Ladron de Amores features Esteban singing both mariachi and banda with mariachi musical arrangements written by Alberto Alfaro of Mariachi Vargas and the banda arrangements by Jose Luis Arreguin. Alberto wrote 2 songs for the new CD Broma del Destino and Ladron de Amores.

“Because the cd was multiple genres, it was a difficult task to get everything together because the banda songs were arranged and recorded in Houston and the mariachi songs were recorded in Guadalajara,”...

Nydia Rojas and Ricardo Castillon scored a beautiful rendition of “Hay Unos Ojos” and benchmarked their career with sales of upwards of 50,000 units of that recording and video. Tejanos throughout South Texas can’t get enough of that song which still tops the Top 50 Best Songs of All Time.

“Nydia and Ricardo’s chemistry was like placing lighting in a bottle and it continues to resonate with music lovers everywhere,” says Ruben Cubillos, Manager for Ricardo Castillon and president of A Big Chihuahua. “Today, “Hay Unos Ojos” is still part of Ricardo’s repertoire at almost all his presentations,” he says.

Two artistic colleagues will reconnect on stage and relive the magic of their vocal power before a live audience on Saturday, November 21 at the San Antonio Municipal Auditorium. They will open for the internationally acclaimed Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán as part of the 15th Anniversary Celebration of the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza.
