Looking for a fun, tasty way to spend a Sunday afternoon? How about a short drive to the Texas Hill Country, and a great plate of Rudy's famous BBQ  in Leon Springs, Texas.

It's always a treat to eat there; never a disappointment with the food which offers turkey, chicken, brisket, sausage with wonderful side orders of potato salad, cole slaw and beans.  And of course ice cold sodas, water, and beer.

That said, while it is not too expensive, it is not that cheap either.  For a family of four, conservatively be ready to dish out at least $50.  Not too bad, but if your family, like ours are having to cut corners, it is not something we can do every weekend, but when we do it, it sure makes it for a fun drive and great BBQ.  If you are in the military or retired, however, they do give you a break.

UPDATE: Still great beer but the wings are gone, off the menu no more!!  Bartender says many still ask for them... Joey tells us we were the only ones.  Service has also deteriorated, it seems everything time we're there... something always manages to go wrong.    Wings were the best, beer is great but our last three visits a bit flat and warm, and when we asked for an exchange they wanted to charge us.   I spoke to Joey and he quickly took care of it and half of our bill.  As disappointing and upsetting as it was, 100% would have been more than appropriate.  Oh well... nothing good last. 9/18/09

July 5, 2009.- Great beer, fantastic buffalo wings, excellent salmon and tasty salsa and chips.  Joey's Blue Star Brewing Co. is one of  AlamoCityTimes.com favorite spots.

Down in Southtown, the Blue Star Brewing Co., since 1996, was one of the first establishments to set up shop in what is today one of the Alamo City's up and coming and trendy neighborhoods.... (more)

www.pearlfarmersmarket.com

It's fun, it's colorful, and it's free to browse. And an affordable place to pick up fresh fruits and vegetables, and seasonal items including meats, fish and baked good straight to your table from the producers.

The market is open every Saturday from 9am - 1pm rain or shine!

It is refreshing to see these kind of places in our Alamo City. Thank you everyone at the Pearl project for such a wonderful new option. And they even have their own YouTube channel, how about that!

Here's one of their "homegrown" videos. We promise to go there soon, and bring you a full report. Or better yet, beat your editor to the punch if you go post your story here :)
